Together, we developed a series of multipurpose communications trailers for the City of Johannesburg (CoJ), designed to bring essential services directly to communities.

The Challenge: A Versatile, Mobile Solution for City Outreach

The City of Johannesburg required a flexible, mobile unit that could function as a remote office, an audio studio, and a communication hub, complete with satellite internet and independent power. The trailer needed to be compact yet spacious enough to accommodate personnel and technical equipment, durable for off-grid use, and light enough to be towed by a code 8 vehicle or SUV.

This solution would enable CoJ to conduct remote client registrations, operate as a portable office, and facilitate community events and brand activations in various locations.

The Telemedia Solution: A Custom-Built Communications Trailer

Leveraging our expertise in mobile solutions, Telemedia spearheaded the technical development of these specialised trailers. We built a durable, roadworthy unit with a double-axle chassis and ISO panel construction. This provided strength and acoustic attenuation while maximising interior space.

We carefully designed the trailer's layout to ensure seamless integration of essential components, including a 19" equipment rack, an L-shaped workstation, and acoustic dampening for an optimal working environment. The rubberised floor enhances durability and simplifies maintenance, ensuring long-lasting performance in the field.

  • 1.2m VSAT terminal mounted on the roof for satellite internet connectivity, ensuring reliable communication even in remote locations.

Refinements for Enhanced Performance

During the final development phase, several enhancements were made to improve functionality. The UPS model was adjusted for better integration, additional external lighting was installed, and switchgear was rewired for smoother operation. Cable trunking was added for CCTV cameras, and the interior was spray-painted to match the acoustic carpeting for a cohesive look.
